O'HARE INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT WELCOMES
BMI BRITISH MIDLAND
CHICAGO – June 8, 2001. O'Hare International Airport today welcomes the launch of bmi british midland's new non-stop service to Manchester, England. The new service to Manchester gives O'Hare a daily average of 14 flights to the United Kingdom.
The addition of the bmi british midland daily A330-200 service to Manchester represents a growth in international service for O'Hare. A total of 52 scheduled and charter airlines offer non-stop service to 45 international and 182 domestic destinations.
"We welcome bmi british midland to O'Hare", said Chicago Aviation Commissioner Thomas R. Walker. "The added competition to the United Kingdom will benefit travelers by offering more choices when choosing international travel."
"This is a very important day in the history of our airline", said Sir Michael Bishop, Chairman of bmi british midland. "The addition of Chicago to our route network will enable us to provide our outstanding service on a global scale."
The Chicago-Manchester route is operated in conjunction with the airline's Star Alliance partner United Airlines. bmi british midland customers will be able to book connecting flights operated by United Airlines out of Chicago. United Airlines will also be able to sell seats on the new bmi british midland flight to Manchester.
O'Hare is pleased to welcome bmi british midland service and looks forward to continued growth in the international sector. With so many travel choices, O'Hare continues to offer more of what travelers want in quality air service.
The latest improvements will take place at O'Hare with the World Gateway Program, which responds to forecasted international growth and the trend toward airline alliances. The City and its airlines are investing in Chicago's aviation future with this program to reconfigure its terminals and real estate to maximize operational flexibility. Two new terminals, additional Federal Inspection Services and roadway improvements are all part of the World Gateway Program. With the World Gateway Program, Chicago will remain a leader in global aviation.
